If you haven't been to this event near Gallup, New Mexico...go! Amazing! There was little to no wind this morning. The balloons lifted off one by one in the stillness. The balloons drifted against the beautiful backdrops of Red Rock and Church Rock and as the sun rose, the face of the red rock glowed as if on fire. During the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque, many of the pilots dip and momentarily splash down in the waters of the Rio Grande. Here, the balloon pilots scale the Red Rock cliffs, their baskets dragging or hopping up the structures. The balloons hover low as they journey from the ascension fields to the face of Red Rock. In the calmness of the morning, it is easy for spectators to chit chat with pilots as they float by. Some visitors climb to the top of the cliffs to get a close-up of the balloons climbing the rock or drifting over. We happened to drive by last night during the balloon glow. The glowing balloons casting their glow on the Red Rock cliffs was breathtaking. I will definitely make my way back next year and for years to come.
